EPR - HARMONY & HERITAGE
Pacific OCS, USA - 1992

Platform
The Harmony and Heritage platforms are located offshore California in over 1,000 feet water depth.

Challenge
Following damage sustained by the platforms during installation EPR were tasked with the assessment, strengthening and repair of the facilities.

MSL Scope
MSL provided engineering support to EPR in a number of areas:

Strengthening of damaged members:
MSL studied the diverless implementation of strengthening braces at 8 horizontal frame elevations down to 960 feet water depth. The study included the preparation of remote installation procedures.

Assessment of conductor bay joints:
MSL undertook a study to develop strengthening schemes to improve fatigue lives for seven different joint configurations. They included combinations of grout filling, clamping, and weld improvement techniques. Methodologies were developed strength and fatigue life predictions for grouted joints.

Clamp Detail Design:
MSL carried out the detail design of three stressed grouted repair clamps for installation to the Heritage platform. The scope included preparation of AFC drawings and of fabrication and installation procedures.

Benefits
Engineering assessment was exploited to identify the requirement to strengthen and repair. Cost-effective repair solutions were developed where intervention was unavoidable.
